The most commonly reported spot price transaction range for US domestic base price hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil has softened by $2.00 cwt. ($44/mt or $40/nt) since our last report a week ago, bringing the current average spot price range to $26.00-$28.00 cwt. ($573-$617/mt or $520-$560/nt), ex-Midwest mill. Prices for 0.019”x48” G90 have also softened by $2.00 cwt. ($44/mt or $40/nt), while prices for base-price Galvalume coil and 0.019x41.5625 Gr80/AZ55 are also down $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) week-on-week. Deals below these ranges are said to be available for anyone who is interested in booking large tonnages.
Sources close to SteelOrbis report that this is tied to both the recent downtrend in US domestic scrap prices along with HDG supply that continues to outpace demand. Import HDG arrivals continue to be a problem, according to one Texas-based source, noting that inventory levels continue to remain high.
