Prices within the US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume coil markets may be mostly steady since our last report a week ago, with the most commonly reported transaction range for base-price HDG coil still trending at $28.00-$29.00 cwt. ($617-$639/mt or $560-$580/nt), ex-Midwest mill, service center and distribution center sources report that deals are being transacted in ranges that are below replacement cost. “At this point we’re just trying to clear out high-priced inventory,” said one Texas based source.
It’s also speculated that ex-mill transaction pricing could soften as soon as next week, after the revised October scrap numbers are released. Numerous sources close to SteelOrbis cite a strong belief that once US scrap prices officially come down, flat rolled steel spot prices will follow.
