Although most sources for US import hot dipped galvanized coil have maintained a sideways trend in pricing in the last week, sources tell SteelOrbis that Chinese mills have dropped import offer prices for 0.019" x 48" G90 by about $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt). So far, other sources have not adjusted prices in kind. Traders have said that while export volumes have been trending on the low side in India, mills are not expected to “chase orders” in the near-term.
For US buyers, current inventory levels are good, and according to one source, “there really isn’t a pressing need to buy right now.” That, compounded with falling prices within the US domestic HDG market, has led many buyers to maintain their current holding pattern regarding purchasing activity.
