The bulk of US import hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil may have been removed from the market due to the import HDG trade case but sources close to SteelOrbis report that import offer prices, which are still much cheaper than domestic offerings, continue to be a concern.

The US sales price for US import 0.012”x40.875” G30 coil from Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is currently being heard at approximately $42-$44 cwt. ($926-$970/mt or $840-$880/nt), which is much less than the currently heard range from US domestic mills, which is trending at $49.50-$50.50 cwt. ($1091-$1113/mt or $990-$1010/nt), ex-Midwest mill.

“Yes there is less coming in but if it’s being offered at a price that gets a lot of attention, there’s concern that the offshore price could weigh down the [domestic] market,” one source said.

India-based sources, however, continue to report that export offers for HDG coil to the US continue to be offered at approximately $640-$660/mt FOB, but trading activity into the US has been sluggish.  This is surprising, the source notes, especially due to increased spot market prices within the US domestic market.
