Little, if anything has changed within the US import hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume coil markets since our last report a week ago, although trader sources continue to report that offshore producers are “amply willing to negotiate with anyone who is bringing tons to the table.”
Offshore mills continue to have significant market share when it comes to Galvalume coil, according to sources, and since coated products are still the strongest segment of the US flats market, they’re “not exactly willing to let that go.”
In terms of HDG, Chinese mills have been especially aggressive in their offer prices, according to Indian-based traders, who say aggressive Chinese offers have led to fewer ex-India bookings. And while US buyers have been seeking out lower prices from Indian mills, higher input costs have hampered those efforts.
