US import hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil prices have held “mostly steady” since our last report a week ago, although sources close to SteelOrbis say that second and third tier Chinese producers are ready and willing to negotiate deals in hopes of pushing larger volumes.
US-based trader sources, though, say they’re somewhat wary in booking hefty transactions based on volatility within the domestic market. Inventories are being closely monitored, according to one Midwest-based source, and few, if any “plan on taking any big risks until the US market shows signs of leveling.” Those who are booking say they’re less interested in ex-India bookings for HDG coil, since prices out of China pose a significant price advantage.
