Spot prices for US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil have narrowed since our last report a week ago, with prices having dipped by approximately $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) on the top end.
This brings the current average transaction range to $38.50-$39.50 cwt. ($849-$870/mt or $770-$790/nt), ex-Midwest mill. Domestic mills’ lead times continue to soften, sources note, adding that current HDG lead times are trending “somewhere between six and seven weeks, depending on the mill,” a service center source said.
It’s further believed that the still-soft pricing trend has not yet bottomed out, which has many buyers wary about placing orders unless they absolutely need to buy.
