Although the most commonly heard spot price transaction range for US domestic, base-price hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil has remained steady since our last report a week ago, at $37-$39 cwt ($816-$860/mt or $740-$780/nt), ex-Midwest mill, prices for other grades, such as 0.012”x40.875” G30, 0.019”x48” G90 and Galvalume have widened by $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) on the top end.
Sources close to SteelOrbis are citing belief that US flat rolled steel spot market prices will stay strong through the end of the year, “especially in light of the forecast bump for scrap prices in December,” one source said.
Sources are also speculating that US flat rolled steel prices, including HDG spot market prices, could start to show signs of correction after the first of the year.
