The White House today announced they’ve kicked off a “Made in America” themed week, which will promote US products, jobs and industries.
“This week the Trump administration will honor the amazing American workers and companies who have products that are made in America,” said White House director of media affairs Helen Ferre. The move is in line with President Trump’s pledge to bring back US manufacturing jobs.
Some question whether the announcement of a “Made in America” week is foreshadowing of an announcement on the results of the Section 232 investigation, which could implement high tariffs and quotas on imported steel.
For now, however, the US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume markets continue to hold steady, with order activity and inquiries still trending light. The most recently heard pricing for base-price US domestic HDG coil are still being heard at $39-$41 cwt. ($860-904/mt or $780-$820/nt), ex-mill.
