Spot market prices for US domestic hot rolled galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume coil have remained steady in the last week despite another announced mill price increase, but sources say the market is primed for price firming.
This week, as the “dust is still settling” from the $1.50 cwt. ($33/mt or $30/nt) effective-immediately price increase announced by several US domestic flats mills, spot prices are still in last week’s range of $39.50-$41.00 cwt. ($871-$904/mt or $790-$820/nt), ex-mill. But with scrap prices poised to rise again in September, and decreased import arrivals due to order apprehension regarding the now-delayed Section 232 investigation, sources say US HDG and Galvalume prices will most likely rise as the increase is absorbed into the market.
