Last week, AK Steel announced they would be raising prices on all US domestic flat rolled steel products, including US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume coil, but prices continue to remain steady.
At current, other US flats mills have yet to announce increases of their own.
And while some thought that Hurricane Harvey would firm domestic steel prices, others remain skeptical. “Our guys think it’s just too early to put any numbers to the impact of the storm, but we believe the effects will be more localized, and will therefore not impact us significantly as a whole,” a source said.
Current lead times remain stable, another source said, noting he felt strongly that in the absence of lead times extending out, that flats mills would have a hard time pushing prices upward.
