US domestic hot rolled coil (HRC) prices stabilized this week following two weeks of modest decreases. For now, US domestic HRC leveled out to the general range of $33.00-$34.50 cwt. ($728-$761/mt or $660-$690/nt) ex-mill.
US domestic cold rolled coil (CRC) prices, meanwhile, remained flat this week in the general range of $38.50-$39.50 cwt. ($849-$871/mt or $770-$790/nt) ex-mill. Sources said mills continue to ask for higher prices, but are not getting it. The last increase was $0.50 cwt. ($11/mt or $10/nt) ex-mill in early January, and before that offers had not budged since early November when CRC prices increased $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt). However, a softening of about $0.50 cwt. ($11/mt or $10/nt) is projected in the next week.
As for imports, Mexican offers to the US on HRC increased $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) to $31.00-$32.00 cwt. ($683-$705/mt or $620-$640/nt) DDP loaded truck delivered into Houston.
Other import prices to the US stayed neutral. Chinese CRC offers to the US remained in the approximate range of $33.50-$34.50 cwt. ($739-$761/mt or $670-$690/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports. In addition, Indian offers on CRC remained at the same price from last week.
