The most commonly heard spot price transaction range for base price US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) has declined by $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) on the top end of the range since our last report a week ago, which brings the current average spot price transaction range to $40.50-$41.50 cwt. ($893-$915/mt or $810-$830/nt) ex-mill, although deals below this range continue to be available to volume buyers.
Sources close to SteelOrbis have expressed concern that the expectation of a “soft sideways” trend for US scrap prices next month could place additional downward pricing pressure on US HDG prices.
