The most commonly reported spot price transaction range for US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume coil have continued to trend lateral since our last report a week ago, with prices for US domestic HDG still holding in the approximate range of $41-$42 cwt. ($904-$926/mt or $820-$840/nt), ex-Midwest mill.
Deals slightly below this range, however, are said to be taking place on a “quiet basis.”
Ex-mill lead times are still holding at about eight weeks; this is also unchanged in the past seven days.
Buyers still say they’re reluctant to stock inventory at current price points due to concern that spot market prices will begin to soften in the upcoming weeks. Others, however, while still reluctant to take on excess inventory, feel that prices won’t begin to fluctuate until Q4.
