Spot prices within the US domestic hot rolled coil market may have started to soften, but sources close to SteelOrbis say they “aren’t as worried” that US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume coil will see any immediate corrections.
SteelOrbis sources note that US HDG lead times are “still the lengthiest out of all the flats products,” adding that order activity continues to be robust in many areas of the country. Although some have expressed concern that current prices could be vulnerable to correction once import steel again becomes a factor, sentiment as to how long current prices will hold remains split. While some sources think the spot market could exhibit signs of softening as soon as Q3, others feel the market will hold “through the end of the year.”
