The most commonly reported spot price transaction range for US base price hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil has ticked down by another $1.00 cwt. since our last report a week ago, marking a $4.00 cwt. ($88/mt or $80/nt) dip from levels seen at the end of 2014. Today, the current range is trending at $31.00-$33.00 cwt. ($683-$705/mt or $620-$640/nt) ex-Midwest mill, with many questioning if US hot rolled coil and scrap prices trend down for February buys, if the HDG market will see additional erosion as well.
Prior dips for grades with coating extras, along with Galvalume, however, have seemed to have stabilized week-on-week, although sources close to SteelOrbis say that anyone who is wanting to book a hefty-sized order can likely negotiate deals slightly below the current range.
