Earlier this month, SteelOrbis predicted the slow, downward trend for US domestic flats products could last through the end of January; prices for hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil seem to be trending in line. Base price HDG coil prices have trended down by an additional $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) since our last report a week ago, which has January prices down approximately $3.00 cwt. ($66/mt or $60/nt) from levels seen in late December. The current average spot price transaction range has corrected to $32.00-$34.00 cwt. ($705-$750/mt or $640-$680/nt) ex-Midwest mill, although buyers continue to report holding off on making stock buys until they have greater confidence that the market has bottomed out.
