Offers on US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume products started to soften at the start of the year and spot pricing has continued that trend this week with a dip in both HDG and Galvalume base prices.
Pricing on US domestic HDG base price dropped $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) to $37.00-$39.00 cwt. ($816-$860/mt or $740-$780/nt). Similarly, offers on HDG with the specifications 0.012” x 40.875” G30 and 0.019” x 48” G90 both softened $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) ex-mill. This week, 0.012” x 40.875” G30 stood in the approximate range of $47.00-$48.50 cwt. ($1,036-$1,069/mt or $940-$970/nt) ex-mill and 0.019” x 48” G90 with a tighter general range of $47.00-$48.00 cwt. ($1,036-$1,058/mt or $940-$960/nt) ex-mill.
Even more notable is the $2.00 cwt. drop in US domestic Galvalume base prices this week. Offers can now be found in the general range of $37.00-$38.50 cwt. ($816-$849/mt or $740-$770/nt) ex-mill.
Sources tell SteelOrbis many buyers had held off on making deals while waiting for this softening, and activity is projected to pick up this week.
