Turkish PPGI market to see demand improvement at start of New Year

Demand in the Turkish domestic pre-painted galvanized iron (PPGI) market has continued to be characterized by slackness over the past week, while both local and export prices of Turkish PPGI have remained stable. Market sources state that Turkish traders, who are experiencing liquidity issues due to the approach of the New Year, have postponed their purchases. The reasons for the slack demand for galvanized iron in the Turkish steel market are thought to be the continuing downtrend of Turkish domestic HRC prices over the past two months and the weak activity in the Turkish construction sector due to seasonal factors. It seems that PPGI buyers, who have so far been reluctant to conclude purchases, will consider concluding deals after the New Year holiday depending on their stock levels.

Turkish mills' local offers for RAL 9002 0.3 mm 100 gr/m² zinc-coated PPGI are standing at $995-1,050/mt, while offers for RAL 9002 0.5 mm are at $855-910/mt and prices for RAL 9002 1 mm stand at $775-820/mt. All the offers in question are on ex-works basis and exclude 18 percent VAT.

In the meantime, ex-Turkey PPGI offers have remained stable compared to last week in the range of $835-860/mt FOB, for January and February shipments.
