Traders wait and see in sluggish Chinese domestic steel plate market

During the week ending July 21, steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market have continued their slight downward movement, while transaction activity has remained at low levels. Average steel plate prices in China can be viewed in the SteelOrbis price reports section.

During the given week, demand for steel plate from downstream users has remained sluggish, while costs have provided a certain degree of support for steel plate prices after they dropped down to low levels. Arrivals of new supplies in the market have been limited and inventory in the spot market has indicated slight declines, and so traders have been less willing to lower prices for sales. As for the future market, traders have mostly been maintaining a wait-and-see stance as demand from downstream industries is unlikely to show significant improvement for the time being. It is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market may indicate some further slight downticks in the coming week.
