During the week ending December 8, average Chinese domestic hot dip galvanized (HDG) prices have indicated an upward trend, while overall transaction activity in the market has been at decent levels. Average HDG prices in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, there has been a supply shortage in the domestic HDG market, providing support for HDG prices. Restrictions on steelmakers’ production activities in northern China aimed at reducing pollution have resulted in low inventory levels in the HDG market. Meanwhile, ferrous metal futures prices in China have been increasing, also providing support for HDG prices in the spot market. It is thought that HDG prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely move up further in the coming week.
