Still no import steel plate offers heard in Turkey

Over almost two months now, no import steel plate offers have been heard in Turkey. Since market players expect that the current downtrend of prices in the global steel markets to continue and as buyers are adopting a wait-and-see stance for this reason, foreign steel producers are also unwilling to make offers to the export markets. Meanwhile, the strike affecting Ukraine’s railways which started in early June has played a role in the lack of Ukraine’s steel plate exports to Turkey, with no deals being heard. The latest shipbuilding plate offers to Turkey from Ukraine were in the range of $510-530/mt CFR, while the latest Macedonian hot rolled plate (HRP) offers to Turkey were in the range of $590-610/mt CFR, with both these price ranges recorded almost two month ago. Meanwhile, no new ex-Bulgaria HRP offers have been heard in the Turkish market in the past two and a half months.
