Sluggish demand in local Italian flat steel market

Prices have continued to move on an upward trend over the past couple of weeks in the European flat steel market, with producers' prices now standing at €390-400/mt ($441-452/mt) for hot rolled coil (HRC) and at €490-520/mt ($554-588/mt) for both cold rolled coil (CRC) and hot dip galvanized (HDG), all ex-works. These prices have been accepted in the German and French markets, while in the Italian and Spanish markets the accepted price levels are still a little lower.

In the Italian market, demand is sluggish but local producers are enjoying a good period because of the absence of import offers, particularly from China. It seems that Chinese producers are worried about the possibility of even more antidumping measures in Europe.
