During the week ending September 7, steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market have mostly continued their declining trend, while overall transaction activity in the market is still on the slack side. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the tables below.
During the given week, due to the military parade in Beijing marking the 70th anniversary of victory in the war against Japan, the outputs of steel plate producers in northern China were below normal levels. Meanwhile, finished steel futures prices have decreased, while demand from downstream users has been slack, contributing to the decline seen in steel plate prices. However, China's One Belt, One Road development strategy will likely exert a positive impact on the finished steel market. There are a number of national holidays in China in September and early October, including the September 3-6 holiday, the Mid-Autumn Festival (September 26-27) and the National Day Holiday (October 1-7), which will contribute to slower activity in the market, and so bearish sentiment will also likely continue to prevail among steel plate traders. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will edge down slightly in the coming week.
