Although the recent $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) price increase announcement that was rolled out by some US flats mills seems to have fallen by the wayside, it did succeed in stalling additional downward pricing momentum within the spot market. “At this point we’re just forging on ahead,” according to one Midwest-based service center. Activity is good, but “nothing to write home about, for now we’re just going to keep holding our line.”
In terms of transaction pricing, the most commonly reported spot price range for base-price HDG has remained neutral since our last report a week ago, still at $35.50-$37.50 cwt. ($783-$827/mt or $710-$750/nt) ex-Midwest mill, although anyone with a big order may be able to negotiate deals on coating extras.
