Last week, six US steelmakers filed antidumping and countervailing duty petitions against China, India, Italy, Korea and Taiwan, yet Brazil who has been selling coated steel products to the US at similar price points, was not included in that list.
Trader sources say they’re still waiting for the dust to settle and plan on backing off ordering galvanized steel from mills within the named countries. It’s also expected that import offers from other areas will soon make their way into the market. Other sources close to SteelOrbis have also pointed out that there is still quite a bit of import tons that are sitting around at the docks, and it’s unlikely that buyers will be rushing out to book large-sized orders from offshore producers anytime soon.
