The Italian flat steel market has failed to indicate any improvement in the last two weeks. In the given period, domestic market prices have remained at the same levels, but it is not uncommon for producers to grant discounts of €5-10/mt on their official prices. Market sources have told SteelOrbis that in the last two weeks demand for flat steel has weakened further. Orders are close to zero both locally and in the export markets. Buyers appear to be anxious to avoid the risks involved in placing import orders since delivery times are too long and prices are not particularly attractive. In this climate of pessimism and uncertainty, it is very difficult to make predictions about the future trend of prices.
As mentioned, prices in the Italian flat steel market have remained unchanged: hot rolled coil (HRC) base prices are positioned at €520-530/mt ($697-710/mt), cold rolled coil (CRC) base prices are at €600-610/mt ($804-817/mt), while hot dip galvanized (HDG) coils are offered at €580-590/mt ($777-791/mt). All these prices are ex-works.
