Mills compete for low order volumes in Chinese steel plate market

During the week ending March 10, steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market have continued their downward trend. Average steel plate prices in China can be viewed in the SteelOrbis price reports section.

Chinese steel plate producers have been competing very strongly with each other in their domestic market for insufficient order volumes, leading to declines in the producers' ex-works prices, while steel plates prices in the domestic spot market have followed the soft ex-works price trend. During the given week, transaction activity in the domestic steel plate market has remained poor. A potential risk for the current market is that there may be an influx of new supplies in the market in the coming period and this causes traders to be cautious. It is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will fluctuate within a narrow range in the coming week.
