Mexican domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) prices increased $23/mt in the last two weeks to reach $643/mt ex-mill.

Mexico achieved a new record in volume of production and export of cars, which allowed it to become a “giant” in Latin America, said a source in the automotive sector.

Record exports to the United States market totaled 1,993,162 vehicles in 2015, up 6.3 percent from a year earlier.

Last year Mexico produced 3,399,076 cars, 5.6 percent more than in 2014, when 3,219,786 vehicles were produced.

The automotive industry will continue to grow and demand also special flat steel, sources said, giving a positive outlook for prices as well.
