Mexican domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) prices increased $22/mt in the last two weeks to reach $665/mt ex-mill.

In the case of special flat steel, the currency exchange rate has favored international prices, so a recovery is evident.

However, a source from the automotive industry estimated that 60 percent of the inputs that auto parts manufacturers use are imported, including steel, which affects the production chain.

"There needs to be greater integration of national suppliers that are modernized and can join a competitive industry; to achieve, we would reduce operating costs further in Mexico and would be the ideal place to build a car,” said one source.
