During the week ending June 15, the average prices of Chinese domestic hot dip galvanized (HDG) have increased, while transaction activity in the market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average HDG prices in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, finished steel futures prices in China have generally moved in an upward direction, exerting a positive impact on prices in the HDG market. At the same time, however, fluctuations seen in the steel futures market have resulted in increased caution among some HDG traders, who decided to keep their prices unchanged in the latter part of the week. Meanwhile, Chinese steelmaker Wuhan Iron and Steel Co. has issued its prices for July shipment, keeping its DX51 and DX52 HDG prices unchanged, while lowering prices of other HDG products by RMB 80/mt ($11.76/mt). It is thought that HDG prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely move sideways in the coming week.
