Since SteelOrbis' most recent report published last week, flat steel prices have remained stable in the European market at €420-460/mt ($470-515/mt) for hot rolled coil (HRC), at €530-560/mt ($594-627/mt) for cold rolled coil (CRC) and at €510-540/mt ($571-605/mt) for hot dip galvanized (HDG), all ex-works. Currently, in northern Europe prices stand at the higher end of the above price ranges, while in Italy prices are at the bottom of these ranges.
Since the end of July, the average price increase in the European flat steel market is nearly €40/mt ($45/mt) because of two reasons: the antidumping duties and investigations that keep away foreign suppliers and good order books for European producers, which are said to be ready to announce a price increase over the coming weeks. In the meantime, distributors are skeptical about this possibility because at the moment they have still not been able to fully pass on the €40/mt ($45/mt) summer increase to their customers.
