According to market sources, domestic flat steel quotations in Italy have either increased or moved sideways during the past week.

In Italy, domestic producers' prices for hot rolled coil (HRC) are currently in the range of €540-560/mt ($572-594/mt) ex-works, while their most widespread prices for cold rolled coil (CRC) and hot dip galvanized (HDG) coil are now at €640-665/mt ($678-705/mt) ex-works and €650-675/mt ($689-716/mt) ex-works, respectively. Over the past week, HRC and CRC prices in the local Italian flat steel market have respectively moved up by €5/mt and €10/mt both on the lower end, while HDG quotations in the country have moved sideways week on week.

Sources say that in the local Italian flat steel market buyers at the distribution level are very nervous, as they are struggling to pass onto their customers the price increases that have been coming from the producers in the last few months. However, Italian - and European producers in general - still appear still determined to increase prices further, or at least not to allow any reduction in prices.
