The pricing pendulum for US domestic flats products has started to swing toward the high end of their average ranges, and US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) is no exception to the rule. Although the most commonly reported spot price range has held at approximately $37.00-$39.00 cwt. ($816-$860/mt or $840-$860/nt) ex-Midwest mill, deals toward the bottom end of the range are becoming fewer and farther between. Rumor has it that flats mills could roll out an official price increase for hot rolled coil before Labor Day, although it’s too soon to tell if they’ll try to firm HDG prices as well. In terms of general market activity, orders and inquiries are steady and “better than expected” according to SteelOrbis sources, who predict this trend to sustain throughout the summer.
