The most commonly heard spot price transaction ranges for US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume coil have maintained their sideways trend for the second week in a row; the current average transaction range for base-price HDG coil continues to hold at $41-$43 cwt. ($904-$948/mt or $820-$860/nt), ex-Midwest mill.
Order activity is stable, sources note, adding that there is “not really any concern that this month’s forecasted downtrend in scrap prices will have any impact on flats prices.”
The wild card for the market continues to be still-pending trade action from the Trump administration, which could have a significant impact on the availability of imports moving forward.
