US West Coast flat rolled steelmaker California Steel Industries (CSI) announced to customers Monday that it has opened its September order books, and effective immediately with new orders placed and accepted for availability for August 30th and later, its transaction prices for all flat rolled products will rise by a minimum of $40/nt ($44/mt or $2.00 cwt.).

The Fontana, California-based firm cited “continued changing market conditions in addition to rising operating and raw material costs” as the reasons behind the price increase.

SteelOrbis notes that the major integrated flat rolled producers in the US Midwest are also raising prices by $40/nt in September, while minimill and market leader Nucor is raising its flat rolled prices by a minimum of $60/nt ($66/mt or $3.00 cwt.).

CSI is the leading producer of flat rolled steel in the Western United States, with an annual steelmaking capacity of two million tons. CSI offers five different product lines: hot rolled, pickled and oiled, galvanized and cold rolled sheet, as well as electric resistance welded (ERW) pipe.
