Fontana, California-based flat rolled producer California Steel Industries Inc. (CSI) announced to customers Monday that in conjunction with opening its August order book, it will raise transaction prices effective immediately with new orders placed and accepted for August 2, 2009 and later.

CSI said in a letter to customers that it will raise hot rolled products by a minimum of $40 /nt ($44 /mt or $2.00 cwt.); cold rolled by a minimum of $50 /nt ($55 /mt or $2.50 cwt.) and galvanized by a minimum of $50 /nt.

The company also said that all appropriate extras will apply.

CSI explained its pricing move by citing the low levels of domestic production, reduced import viability and increasing raw material costs.
