Chinese domestic steel plate market moves on upward trend

Monday, 28 November 2016 14:57:11 (GMT+3)   |   Shanghai

During the week ending November 28, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have increased, while transaction activity in the overall market has been at medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.

During the given week, average steel plate prices have switched to upward movement from their previous declining trend, with market participants mostly holding an optimistic view of the future prospects for the market. Speculative activity has resumed in the steel plate market in China due to production restrictions for environmental protection in China's northern region. Inventories in the spot market are at relatively low levels, providing support for steel plate prices in the spot market. Meanwhile, hot rolled coil (HRC) prices have indicated some increases, which will have a positive impact on steel plate prices in the spot market. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely continue to move up in the coming week.
