During the week ending May 4, in the Chinese domestic market average cold rolled coil (CRC) and cold rolled sheet (CRS) prices have indicated an overall declining trend, while transaction activity in the overall market has slackened compared to the previous week. Average cold rolled product prices in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, since HRC futures prices in China have indicated sharp declines and as semi-finished steel prices in Tangshan have also declined, participants in the domestic CRC market are pessimistic on the future prospects for the market, and this has exerted a negative impact on transaction activities in the market. Currently, demand for CRC from the downstream users is characterized by slackness. It is thought that CRC prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely edge down in the coming week.
