The average FOB export price of the Brazilian slab reached $325/mt in June, 7.6 percent less than in May, according to the country’s ministry of development, industry and foreign trade, MDIC.
The volume exported went up by 21 percent to 558,400 mt, with 198,600 mt exported by ThyssenKrupp CSA at $350/mt FOB, of which 149,600 mt shipped to the Alabama rolling plant, formerly owned by ThyssenKrupp, while 49,000 mt were destined to ThyssenKrupp operations in Germany.
ArcelorMittal exported 189,600 mt at $309/mt, Gerdau Acominas 98,300 mt at $326/mt and Usiminas 71,700 mt at $298/mt, in price deals probably closed during April, all FOB conditions.
Europe was the top destination with 265,800 mt, followed by the US (202,900 mt) and Asia (49,500 mt), while 40,200 mt were shipped to Morocco.
A major exporter told SteelOrbis that slab bookings of the basic commercial grades are currently negotiated at $300/mt, maintaining a downward trend since a peak of $530/mt one year ago, both FOB conditions.
