Slab of the basic commercial grades remain traded in a range of $340/mt to $350/mt, FOB conditions, the same range of last week, two different exporters in Brazil told SteelOrbis.

However, one source confirmed that he has closed a recent deal at $350/mt, compared with $335/mt two weeks ago. Another source, although confirming an uptrend in the works, conceded that his last sale was still closed at $340/mt, all FOB conditions.

One of the sources mentioned that the country’s exports of slab in October could increase by an estimated 20 percent from the 472,000 mt exported in September.

“This is based on conversations held with my peers during the Alacero conference in Rio de Janeiro,” he added.

In September, ArcelorMittal Tubarao exported slab at $362/mt, ThyssenKrupp CSA at $360/mt, Companhia Siderurgica do Pecem (CSP) at $318/mt and Gerdau Acominas at $431/mt, all FOB conditions, with price deals probably closed in July.
