Brazilian producers exported 417,000 mt of slab in June, a 34 percent reduction from May, at an average FOB price up by 1.7 percent to $428/mt, said the country’s ministry of industry, foreign trade and services, MDIC.
The reduction reflects chiefly exports by Siderurgica do Pecem of 122,200 mt, against 311,800 mt in May, while ArcelorMittal Tubarao exported 12 percent more at 168,300 mt and ThyssenKrupp CSA exported 6 percent more at 126,500 mt.
The FOB prices, probably closed in April, were $407/mt for Pecem, $431/mt for Tubarao and $443/mt for ThyssenKrupp CSA.
The main destinations were the US (153,600 mt), the EU (97,100 mt), India (50,800 mt) and Mexico (49,200 mt).
A source from a Brazilian exporter told SteelOrbis that his most recent export deals were closed at $380/mt, FOB conditions, for the basic commercial grades.
