The most commonly reported spot price transaction range for US domestic hot rolled coil (HRC) may be unchanged for the fourth straight week, but sources close to SteelOrbis say deals at the lower end of that range, still at $32.00-$33.50 cwt. ($705-$739/mt or $640-$670/nt) ex-Midwest mill, are becoming less available. The domestic scrap market has rocked steady for July buys, with most regions reporting a sideways trend for pricing, and order activity and inquiries for flats are also decent, according to one Midwest service center source, noting that things aren’t expected to slow down any time in the foreseeable future. Futures offers have also held sideways since our last report a week ago, although traders say they’re increasingly wary of booking tons from Russia due to escalating political unrest.
