AK Steel to increase stainless steel prices

West Chester, Ohio-based US steelmaker AK Steel Holding Corp. announced Tuesday, August 4, that it will increase its base prices for stainless steel products effective with shipments August 30, 2009.

Accordingly, base prices for all 200, 300 and 400 series flat rolled stainless steel products will be increased by six to nine percent, depending on grade and product form. The increase will be achieved through a reduction in the functional discount of two percentage points for cold rolled and hot rolled products. Prices of automotive exhaust grades will increase by $0.04 per pound.

Meanwhile, all surcharges for stainless steel products will remain in effect.
