AK Steel to increase carbon and stainless steel prices

West Chester, Ohio-based AK Steel Holding Corp. announced Thursday, June 18, that it will increase its spot market prices on new orders scheduled for delivery beginning July and August 2009 shipments. Base prices for hot rolled products will increase by $60/nt ($3.00 cwt. or $66.14/mt), cold rolled products by $70/nt ($3.50 cwt. or $77.16/mt) and base prices for all galvanized coated products by $80/nt ($4.00 cwt. or $88.19/mt). Zinc coating extras have also been increased.

Spot market base prices for all 200, 300 and 400 series cold rolled and hot rolled stainless steel products are being increased effective with shipments June 28, 2009. The increase will be achieved through a reduction in the functional discount of two percentage points.

AK Steel produces flat rolled carbon steel primarily for the automotive, appliance and construction industries. The company is also a leading stainless and electrical steel producer.
