Vietnam’s demand for steel in Aug-Oct 2004 period

Vietnam's demand for steel products is expected to be approximately 770'000 tons in Aug-Oct 2004 period. This figure remains unchanged with the same period of last year. An official from Vietnam Steel Association stated that traders will supply 1.2 million tons of steel products to the domestic market between August and October. Vietnam produced 200'000 tons of steel in July, down by 10% compared to the corresponding period of last year. Government data indicates that the country's steel production reached 1.57 million tons in the first seven months of the year with an increase of 3.2% from a year earlier. In Jan-Jul 2004 period, Vietnam imported 2.8 million tons of steel products, including 1.2 million tons of ingots, up by 25.4%.
