Turkish white goods sector sales pretty strong in May
The data released by the
White Goods Industrial Association (BESD) indicates that the
Turkey's
white goods sector showed a pretty positive performance in May while the
consumption trend maintained its strong level, despite the fluctuations in the financial markets. May domestic sales were up by 13.6% month-on-month to 431'266 units, following a slight slowdown in April. On annual basis, sales increased by 54% compared to 280'760 units recorded in May 2003.
Aggressive campaigns with low prices and reduced rates on credit financing continue to affect high growth in domestic market.
Exports also maintained their robust performance in May. Exports reached 672'110 units in the mentioned period, indicating an 11% rise month-on-month and surpassed the 666'000 units registered in October 2003. Imports also rose by 49% from previous month to 46'149 units, driven by strong washing machine and dishwasher volumes.
In the first five months of the year,
production and domestic sales increased by 46% and 67% to 4.53 million units and 1.8 million units respectively, when compared to corresponding period of last year. The domestic sales are expected to maintain their upward trend in June as well.
