Turkish white goods sector data for June 2004
Based on the data released by
White Goods Industrial Association (BESD),
Turkey's June domestic
white goods sales including four main items (refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens and washing machines) surged by 23% compared to May 2004 after a 14% increase in the previous month.
Due to the improvement in consumer confidence and decline in interest rates, domestic sales in the first half of 2004 surpassed the first half of 2003 results by 74%. Despite the significant recovery in domestic demand, imports rose by 28% from a year earlier to 205'692 units.
In June 2004,
white goods exports declined by 8% to 616'314 units compared to the previous month. However, June 2004 export figures indicated a 20% rise compared to June 2003. The year-on-year increase is attributed to the consistent export tendency of domestic producers after the crisis. First half exports were up by 36% from a year earlier to 3.47 million units.
Total
production reached 5.58 million units in Jan-Jun 2004 period with an increase of 47% compared to the 3.79 million units recorded in the same period of last year.
The positive outlook in domestic demand is expected to continue in the second half of 2004 as well, with the further decline in interest rates.
