Turkey's PPI regresses, CPI rises
According to the data released by Turkey's Statistics Institute, in September producer prices regressed, while consumer prices rose. The consumer price index (CPI) indicated a 1.29 percent rise in September due to seasonal effects and the month of Ramadan. Seasonal factors were responsible for increases in the prices of food, clothing and education, resulting in the new upward trend in the CPI. On the other hand, the huge decreases in crude oil and petroleum products led producer prices to decrease 0.23 percent in September. In the first nine months of the year, the CPI totaled 6.65 percent while the PPI was 11.54 percent. The CPI for the 12 months up to the end of September rose to 11.19 percent, while the PPI for the same period fell to 10.55 percent. The price increases recorded last month in some major categories were as follows: • Food and non-alcoholic beverages: 2.86 percent • Clothing and footwear: 2.42 percent • Restaurants and hotels: 1.92 percent • Health: 1.72 percent • Household goods: 1.62 percent • Housing: 1.02 percent • Communication: -0.10 percent • Transportation: -1.76 percent
