Turkey's
Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD) disclosed the country's detailed sector data for June 2005 including domestic sales and export volumes.
Based on the report, total vehicle sales in
Turkey rose slightly 2 percent year on year to 60'797 units in June. This modest rise caused a 15 percent contraction in the first half sales.
Domestic passenger car sales rose 9 percent year on year to 40'890 units in June. The
automotive companies, which struggle to brisk domestic market, started to carry out various discount campaigns.
Domestic light commercial vehicle sales, on the other hand, remained weak in June, declining 10 percent year on year and 29 percent month on month. The monthly contraction in light commercial vehicle sales had been expecting, considering that light commercial vehicle sales inflated artificially in May, when the government postponed an increase in special tax
consumption on LCVs that can be used as passenger cars to June.
Under these circumstances, domestic passenger car sales is expected to show a year-on-year decline of 10 percent at the end of 2005 and domestic light commercial vehicle sales a year-on-year decline of 6 percent.
